October 2013 Staff Gear Picks

Here's a look at the latest gear that's been grabbing our attention this October.

Josh BaldridgeTom Anderson Short Hollow T Classic

I really like this Anderson – the neck pickup is Anderson's PH1 humbucker with a great tele vibe, but it's so much more. I think Texas Swing players would really enjoy this one too. I really like the “Happy Medium' neck on this one too.

Jim BaggettTaylor Custom Cocobolo GA Build-To-Order

Eric P chose the woods and build for this beautiful guitar and it's outstanding. The sound is big yet it works beautifully for pickers as well as strummers.

Eric MardisAnderson Hollow Drop T Classic

While everyone was excited to see the new Raven shape finally come in from Anderson, I quietly fell in love with the new Hollow Drop T Classic that was delivered the same day.  What a guitar!  Buttery ease of play with glorious bell-like tones through a Fender-y clean amp. Top notch build and vibe - this is a lifetime instrument. And, its pretty.

Eric Putnam – Fender '68 Custom Princeton Reverb Amp

This is a cool little amp. The reverb and tremolo sound great, and it breaks up soon enough that you can rock out without having your neighbors complain. This amp would be awesome for rockin at home, recording or even playing on stage.

Mike Runyon – Fender '68 Custom Princeton Reverb Amp

It's got that vintage look and that familiar sound, with the added flexibility it needs to jive with today's pedals. This one is at the top of my wish list.

Ted KritikosSchertler Jam 100 Acoustic Amp

This amp is so cool – if you're serious about your acoustic sound this is the way to go. You can really hone things down to exactly what you're after. I love the wood cab too.

Alek Nelson - Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster

This is a sweet guitar. The single-coil Jazzmaster pickups and the Basswood body give it a rich tone. The Vintage White finish and gold anodized aluminum pickguard look super sharp too.

Mike Horan - Collings 001

The lightness of this 001 reminds me of an old, small bodied Martin. Its quick response is wonderful for fingerpicking, but it has a nice, warm tone when flatpicked as well. Elegantly understated, this is a superbly crafted instrument.

Casey Green - Taylor 414ce Fall Limited

I'm mostly an electric player, so I've never really felt the inclination to replace my kick around, campfire acoustic – until now. Wow. This 414ce Fall Limited is just amazing. I don't know if it's the beautiful Cedar and Indian Rosewood, or how easy this thing plays, or both, but man. The Taylor bug is upon me.

Anne TangemanCollings I-35 (used!)

This is not cheap, but it's the cadillac, in my opinion, for a 335 style guitar – you just can't do better. It's perfect. The sound is classic, the feel is great and the looks of this are just stunning. Wish it were mine!
