April 2017 Staff Picks

Josh BaldridgeWaterloo by Collings – WL-12
I was really looking forward to the arrival of this guitar and now I can say that it was worth the wait. I love that it has such a distinct voice. Every time I sit with it I find that I approach songs a little differently and that always brings a smile to my face.

Jim Baggett – Collings Acoustic Guitars – D1 Traditional T Series – Baked
The Traditional line from Collings has really nailed the vintage Pre-war neck profile in a modern guitar. This D1 is no different. Great responsiveness from the baked top, and plenty of focused mahogany projection.

This guitar sounds great and plays amazingly well. I highly recommend it for beginners, or as a second dreadnought strummer for your acoustic arsenal.

Brian Soden – Tom Anderson Electric Guitars – Drop Top Classic – Sweet and Sour Red
One of my favorite Nashville guitarists and Tom Anderson player, Michael Britt, tours with only a handful of guitars. The centerpieces of his guitar stable are two Tom Anderson electrics. This particular Drop Top Classic is one of the absolute best when it comes to versatility and craftsmanship and will prove to be a roadworthy partner for you. Stainless steel frets are one of my favorite features making fret wear virtually non-existent. Treat yourself to this beautiful tone machine!

Matt Harmon – Gibson Acoustic Guitars – 1959 SJN “Country Western” Jumbo
This one just went through the shop, Jim spliced in the missing binding on the fingerboard and I made a new nut for it. This one has a great feel up and down the neck and is a great playing guitar.

One of the many great Vintage guitars here at the shop!

Trey DurkinGibson Mandolins – 1928 A
Great little Mando with a huge low-end. The adjustable bridge and truss rod will keep this mandolin playing as good as it can. The black-top finish gives it an undeniable cool factor.

One of great deals on used instrument in the shop!

Susan Willits – Lakota Leathers Guitar/Banjo/Mandolin Straps
I love these straps!! They are works of art, soft and comfy, as well as strong and beautiful. I also love the fact that they are hand made by members of the Lakota Sioux Nation in South Dakota. A truly great strap, they are available for mandolin, guitar and banjo.

Matt KappenmanGretsch – G5622T Electromatic Center Block w/Bigsby – Georgia Green
I’ve been looking forward to getting this is since Josh and I checked them out at NAMM. Spruce Center block, bound f-holes and a bigsby…what’s not to like? The 2017 Gretsch lineup has been fantastic, especially for the price.
