This Collings Guitars - D1 Traditional Sunburst, here with the 1 11/16" Traditional neck profile, is another in a run of custom, vintage-inspired sunbursts we ordered up from the crew at Collings Guitars. This finish harkens back to some of our favorite '30s bursts and with a 2 3/16" string spacing, this neck profile feels similar to some of our favorite late '30s necks as well. With a comfortable, slightly round 1st position, and a slight V on frets 5-12 you have a little more meat to properly anchor for those upper register runs.

This particular D1 has an extremely responsive attack right out of the case, with a fundamental that is very open and rings like a bell. Whether digging in with a flatpack or taking a delicate approach this Sitka topped Traditional Collings delivers. Paired with Honduran Mahogany back and sides this D1 has all that bold, direct sound that we love about this tonewood pairing.

The Traditional Series is marked by a return to just that, traditional building techniques and materials combined with the Collings exquisite attention to detail. This new series is highlighted by traditional style bracing and tone woods which are adjusted, weighed and voiced to produce particularly warm, rounded highs while maintaining a full, rich low end. The extra thin Nitrocellulose lacquer finish, applied without a polyvinyl sealer, makes for a lively, expressive top that has the feel of an old vintage guitar. The Traditional Series tone is further enhanced by the use of Animal Protein glue, which can dry harder making every joint of this D1 that much more resonant and powerful.

This Collings D1 1 11/16" Traditional also features the Collings Handmade case, and includes a free setup from our luthiers.
