This Martin - 1953 D-28 features beautiful crack-free Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. 1953 is often referred to as the "Mystery top" year for D28's as Martin used a top wood other than Sitka spruce. This is that year and the crack free top is definitely not Sitka spruce. Some people claim the tops are Adirondack. Others claim Engelmann. The entire guitar has been Martin factory quality over-sprayed. Most likely as a result of a very well repaired and hidden headstock crack. The crack does not show in the photos, but none-the-less is there. The bridge is original but has been shaved a bit and converted to a drop-in saddle. The frets have been changed to a wider and lower profile fret. A new pickguard was professionally installed, most likely at the time the guitar was sprayed. The inside of the guitar is very clean and original other than a very thin bridge plate doubler added to keep the string windings off the saddle. All work and repair on this guitar was neatly and carefully done. The guitar plays and sounds great. This is far better a guitar than "Player Grade" but priced very fairly considering the changes. Includes non original hard case.
