The Mod control switches the filter from symmetrical (even, full phase) to asymmetrical (vintage, unpredictable woosh). The LFO switch changes the vibrato from the classic phasing saw wave to the clipping square wave that can get quite percussive. Even more functionality is had in the two footswitches with the left being the On\/Off switch, but hold down on it to temporarily change to the respective opposite setting for maximum flexibility; the right switch is the havoc button which, when held down, sends the signal into maximum craziness for wacky situations.
