Coming straight from Klaatu's spaceship, the new Fender Vaporizer tube amp has the 1950s and '60s in mind, when the dangers of science and technology were all that was talked about. This amp is sonically reminiscent of old tube amps, with a very This Island Earth-esque appearance. With two 12AX7 preamp tubes and two 6BQ5/EL84 output tubes, it has 12 watts of power, and a great vintage tone, but not gimmicky or unnecessary. Tweaking its three primary controls—Volume, Tone, and Reverb—allows players to manipulate their sound immeasurably, even the ability to emulate playing in a tunnel, or perhaps a wormhole.
In Vaporizer mode, the Volume and Tone controls are bypassed entirely to allow full-strength overdrive, a great '60s fuzz—exactly what you'd expect from an amp that looks like it came out of Gort's 2-bedroom apartment. Full of surprises, like a death ray for peaceful purposes, this little amp is a big deal, a modern vintage machine, perfect for recording, studio work, and practice. "I love 2x10 combos and it's hard to find one that's as affordable as this one and actually sounds good. The Vaporizer Breaks up nicely on the normal setting and when you kick in the footswitch, it bypasses the eq and volume controls and gives you tons of grit and volume. This is one of the coolest amps to come from Fender." - Eric P.
