This Catalinbread Montavillian Echo Pedal offers some big tube-driven echo sounds in a small footprint, no-frills pedal. It's so unique, even the folks with more than one delay on their board might be shifting things around to make room for this one. This echo has your typical Time control (60ms to 600ms), Repeats (feedback‰ÛÓfrom one repeat to endless) and then your Mix and Cut controls. The Mix, while traditional in its function, offers the not-so-traditional ability to actually make your delay signal significantly louder than your dry signal. This is really cool for dramatic doubling effects, adding percussive elements, and all sorts of other wacky, self-oscillation madness depending on your settings. The Cut knob also helps to separate the Montavillian from the pack by enabling extra tweakabilty to the tone and character of your repeats. Easily adjust your delay to sit in the mix perfectly‰ÛÓall the way from old-school, dark filtering to almost crystal-clear repeats, compliments of the 400Hz-1500Hz lowpass filter.
Another big part of the Montavillian's character is the fact that it's a "companderless" echo. The echos trail off and dissipate more organically versus being reduced to mush as the repeats fade, more like an old-school tube echo.
Whether you're running it into a clean or cranked amp, before or after your other pedals, or at 9 or 18 volts, the Catalinbread Montavillian Echo Pedal provides a classic tone that goes the distance from subtle, warm echos to complete experimental freakouts.
