This 2015 D42 is an incredible example of the quality and craftsmanship that Collings has shown over the decades. We originally sold this guitar as new over ten years ago now, and it's only gotten better with age. Featuring a gorgeous set of Madagascar rosewood back sides, paired with an Adirondack spruce top, wrapped in a varnish finish, this dreadnought has that warm low-end sound with the sort of high-end hot-rod tone that made Collings famous. Over the years this varnish finish has cured and aged gracefully, settling into the tone woods making for a resonant and dynamic guitar.
Both the Varnish and Madagascar are currently unavailable as new options from Collings making this a rather rare bird in the history of Collings models. The 42-style binding, torch headstock inlay, and 45-style snowflake inlays makes this a standout guitar from an appointments point of view as well. The abalone binding, ivoroid purfling and varnish finish mesh well together, delivering a vintage look for such a modern guitar.
Here in Excellent condition there is faint swirling to the pickguard, along with a handful of minor finish dents to the top and minor back scratches (see photos for examples). Bill Collings signature on the label. Includes the original Collings TKL hardshell case.
