This used 2023 D2H is a guitar with a bit of history, and marks an inflection point in the Collings sound. A custom voiced model and early Hill Country prototype based on the Traditional Series, this guitar first made it's a debut at the 2023 Fretboard Summit in Chicago, and paved the path that eventually led to the release of the lauded Hill Country series.

Featuring an Adirondack spruce top along with a beautiful set of Madagascar Rosewood back and sides, this 14-Fret dreadnought has a fabulous low-end response that really stands out, along with a nice midrange push and open high-end. The Madagascar Rosewood back and sides really are incredible, and increasingly rare to find in dreadnought sizes with this sort of straight grain. Subtle details like the neck carve being a little more full in the first position, without in any way being chunky, the gorgeous stain match on the mahogany neck, headstock veneer and rosewood back and sides, all add up to really make this custom voiced guitar look as good as it sounds, which of course is a cliché in the guitar world, but is it ever true on this D2H.

We first sold this guitar originally, and it's always a treat when a guitar comes back around after being played in. For those looking for a sound that exists in between the Traditional and the Hill Country lines this is an incredible option. The low-end has that warm big sound that the Hill Country line is known for, while retaining a bit more of that classic Collings touch on the highs.

Here in Very Good condition, there is minor playwar, but nothing unexpected for a guitar that got played. The frets benefit from having been PLEK'd here in our repair shop, and are ready for the next player. There is discoloration to the finish on the top, on the lower bout bass side, where the player's arm rests. The finish is stable there and is no way inhibits the guitar. Includes a Collings hardshell case along with an updated label and Warranty Card (warranty not included) from Collings acknowledging this guitar's status as a Builder's Choice model.

Our Thoughts

In over a decade working here at the shop, and after playing hundreds of Collings Guitars, I can honestly say that this is one of my all time favorite rosewood dreadnoughts. I fell for it at the Fretboard Summit and every time I get to encounter it again it's a brilliant reminder that the great guitars you have in your head rarely disappoint when playing them once again. This guitar is a player, and a unique bridge between the Traditional and Hill Country sounds.
