The Julian Lage OM from Collings Guitars is something special. Not only for its fantastic tone and quality construction, but where it stands as an inflection point in the Collings build process. A signature model based on a collaboration between lauded guitarist Julian Lage, the Collings design team and the late Bill Collings, this OM1 JL reached for a new level of vintage-inspired design at Collings and is a model which has transformed their lineup of traditional acoustic guitars.
Featuring an upgraded spruce "Q-Top" paired with a Honduran Mahogany back and sides, this OM1 JL is a dynamic and huge sounding guitar, the sort of dreadnought replacement that players often search for. There's a direct punch to the string attack, while still having the focused feel that has made the Julian Lage signature model a favorite among players of every genre.
Collings is always searching. Always looking forward. That's one of the many things we love about them as a team of luthiers. Taking advantage of the new "Q-top" rating system from Pacific Rim Tonewoods is the next evolution in that process, allowing them to source an acoustic guitar top that has been graded based on damping, where a High Q-Top such as this reduces damping, with the top able to move more freely and to project more of the vibration of the strings versus absorbing it.
