This 620, here in a Rootbeer finish, is an incredible new electric model from the team at Collings that has absolutely blown us away in terms of responsiveness, engineering and most of all, tone. This is our first 620 to feature solid wood on a semi-hollow build, reminiscent of the I-35 (non-LC) builds, and that solid wood combo excels in a way only Collings can achieve.
The body at 1 5/8" deep delivers a resonant, open sound that, along with the solid maple center block, hosts incredible sustain and volume acoustically. The solid maple top gives this build a good snap and plenty of rich support in the low and mid range from the mahogany back & sides. The deep inset mortise & tenon joint allows for the neck and body to vibrate coherently and offers one of the smoothest playing experiences you'll ever feel on a guitar.
The nitrocellulose Rootbeer finish showcases both the solid maple and mahogany, its's a wonder Collings can match the color so perfectly on two different species of wood while still showcasing that lovely grain.
Here with a pair of Lollar Low Wind Imperial humbuckers that deliver a smooth, rich top-end clarity while also incorporating a tight bass that matches perfectly for jazz licks or pushed for a PAF-inspired tone. The acoustic qualities translate beautifully when plugged in, hosting all those rich tonal qualities amplified by a beautiful pair of pickups. Includes a free Mass Street setup from our crew of luthiers and the original hardshell case.
