This Collings 71, here in a custom color Olive Drab finish, marks a new chapter in the Collings electric story. This boutique model brings a 6-in-line headstock design to the Collings lineup - but with a Texas-sized twist. This Olive Drab finish is currently a one-off from the team at Collings and we're excited to showcase all the ways the 71 model can be used as a platform for unique tonal and finish options.
Featuring an offset, contoured solid Ash body, the 71 features a pair of upgraded Ron Ellis T-style pickups. By simply lifting the tone knob this combination of single coil pickups can switch from parallel to series, delivering a warm, humbucker-esque sound. The Rutters bridge and brass saddles deliver that iconic t-style snap and twang, with the incredible Collings build quality and set neck design.
While most offset electric guitars have a bolt-on neck, the 71 features a slab sawn hard maple neck that is set into the body with a mortise and tenon joint, which allows for the neck, body and pickups to all work as one resonant, solid unit. The decision to go with slab sawn maple was a very deliberate choice by the Collings crew, not only as a nod to the vintage necks of the 1950s, but also in how the flat sawn maple interacts with the body under string tension, giving the guitar an expressive, dynamic feel.
