The Empress Effects Distortion Pedal is a true bypass headbanger of a pedal, featuring three independent flavors - Crunch, Mild, and Lead - that all expertly emulate a high-gain amp. Each setting retains the tight low-end and compression a good distortion pedal should have, and it does so without going overboard or being over-the-top. The Crunch setting is great for heavier rhythm playing - the James Hetfield of the three. Mild offers a more subtle, overdriven-like breakup that is best controlled with your guitar's volume knob. The Lead setting - the Kirk Hammett, if you will - is loaded with gain and sustain.

It has two EQ controls, Treble and Bass, a Gain control for the degree of distortion, and a volume control in the Output knob. A sweet-sounding and straight forward pedal, the Empress Effects Distortion Pedal does exactly what needs to be done.
