This 1966 Fender Duo-Sonic (II) is a wonderful example of the student guitars of the '60s. Featuring two grey bobbin single-coil pickups, this guitar has that '60s warmth to complement that classic single-coil jangle. With the two pickup switches, you can go from both delivering warm and deep in-phase tones, or out-of-phase bright and spanky.

No uncommon in early CBS-era builds was the use of earlier Fender parts, with this guitar sporting a '64 neck which delivers that classic Fender playability and feel that sits great in the hand, as well as a beautiful set of dark clay dots that draw the eye to the guitar's aged look. The pickups date to '66 and we believe they're original, dating the guitar to 1966 despite the '65 serial. The neck is an "A" neck with the corresponding 1 1/2" nut width. The pots also date to 1964.

With neck dating to 1964, this guitar sports the optional "Duo Sonic" 24" scale length, making this what would have been a Duo Sonic II by '66 as Fender split the two scale-lengths into two different model designations, Duo Sonic and Duo Sonic II.

Here in Good condition, it's had the bridge pickup switch route widened and deepened to fit a replacement, larger switch (the other switch has been replaced as well), as well as some modern wiring. The pickup leads remain original. The jack has been replaced but the original is included in the case. At some point in its life, the bridge was swapped and had new holes drilled, but the original has since been reinstalled, leaving only a small finish footprint visible just along the back edge of the bridge.

The finish exhibits light checking and several marks and dents throughout, showcasing its journey over the past 60 years, while the color has morphed to that legendary yellowed olympic white we see on guitars of this era. All in all, a fantastic '60s build at a more affordable price for a vintage Fender, delivering pre-CBS craftsmanship and feel on a CBS-era guitar. Includes a replacement hardshell case.
