This 1938 Gibson J-35 is everything we look for in a vintage guitar, one that has been played but not abused and has the sort of open, quick response that makes it a joy to play.
Featuring a spruce top over a mahogany back and sides, this is the classic late '30s Gibson with a full, V-Shape neck profile that provides a bit of added mass to the neck for a resonant build. Woody and punchy with a focused fundamental and the natural compression that comes along with this bracing, this J-35 is equally at home driving through some bass runs as it is backing off and fingerpicking the blues.
The original low frets, bridge, pickguard, nut and tuners (with replaced buttons) are all present. The saddle has been replaced. For once, accurately dating a Gibson is a breeze as Gibson stamped the serial number on the back of the headstock in '38 with a DG prefix, making this without question, a 1938 J-35. We've had the good fortune to represent this guitar in the past, and it's a treat getting to revisit such an original example of a 3-bar build.
Here in Excellent condition for it's age, this is a J-35 with the original finish that has aged wonderfully with the sort of finish checks that are only present on a late '30s Gibson. There is playwear throughout, along with a few spots where the finish has fallen to the wayside. This is a crack free top and back, with minor repaired side cracks along the treble and bass sides. Includes a TKL hardshell case.
