This vintage 1934 Gibson L-7 archtop is a stunning example of what a the time was a relative newcomer to the Gibson lineup. Based on the sought after L-5, this tone bar L-7 is essentially the same guitar body as Gibson's lauded L-5 with cosmetic appointments setting the two guitars apart. An early '34 L-7, this guitar retains the original 16" body, along with the original varied-pattern mother of pearl inlays starting at the 3rd fret.
The crack free, carved top and back are in very good condition, especially considering the vintage of the instrument. The carved flame maple back and sides look great under the original dark finish. The carved spruce top is gorgeous with the original finish and unbound f-holes making for an understated look. The fluer-de-lis peghead inlay, mid-30s Gibson logo, bound body, original bridge, fingerboard inlays and bound headstock are all in great shape. The original Grover Sta-Tite, riveted gear, tuners are present along with the original patent pending tailpiece, with a replaced string block.
The neck has a nice rounded V profile, that feels comfortable up and down the fingerboard. Original nut, along with the original frets with very litte wear.
Rather than toss out a gorgeous flame maple back, the craftspeople at Gibson inlayed a small piece of maple near the waist to reinforce what was most likely a knot in the wood (see photos). This was expertly done at the factory during the guitar's construction, as the original finish is untouched. Includes the original hardshell case. Call for in-hand description.
