This vintage 1963 Gibson Everly Brothers, here in the all-black finish, is a signature model with an iconic style. From the first full year of production, this small jumbo features a sitka spruce top over maple back and sides.
The self-proclaimed American-skiffle duo with a ton of chart toping hits, the release of this model was a chance for Gibson to capitalize on the popularity of the Everly Brothers and bring back a modified version of this body style. Smaller than the J-200s the Everly's were playing at the time, the J-180 is a 16 1/4" flattop, similar to the earlier J-185 that had been discontinued, only now with a slightly narrower 4 3/8" body depth.
Artist specific appointments such as the double pickguard, star inlays and the top-loading, adjustable bridge made for a player-friendly guitar when it came to easily changing out the strings and adjusting the action at gigs.
Here in Excellent condition, this is about as clean and original as a '60s guitar comes. Original pickguard, finish, inlays, frets, nut and bridge. It's possible the adjustable bridge has been swapped out years ago from what would have been the original, but with the idiosyncratic nature of Gibson it's hard to know for certain. Includes the original hardshell case.
