This Greer Amps - Black Mountain Crunch Drive delivers vintage-inspired crunchy British amp tones to your guitar and bass pedalboards. As always from Nick over at Greer Amps this is a highly usable pedal, crank it up for full on crunch and gnarly overdriven tones, or back it off a bit for a midrange grit that can sound great pushing any rig.

From Greer: Looming large, like the towering behemoths of full stacks of yore, the Black Mountain Crunch Drive roars to life, bringing new dimensions of vintage tone to guitarists (and bass players, too!). This new crunch drive is rooted in a tone quest for the sound of one particular recording of a crunchy British amp, but it has flexibility beyond just that sound. From simply adding crunch, to getting that famous midrange snarl and growl of those metal panel amps that came out just after the plexi era, the Black Mountain Crunch Drive gives up the goods in a way that has a natural, amp like crunch to it. This circuit was inspired by many conversations with many friends, and developed with The Darkness’ album Permission to Land blasting in the background…it’ll get ya there, if you want it to. The two clipping diodes responsible for the drive in this circuit are purposefully imbalanced, selected to impart the proper texture and crunch for this circuit. The Black Mountain requires a standard negative center 2.1mm power supply, and can run off of anything from nine to eighteen volts DC.

Our Thoughts

Great classic to hard rock pedal with more crunch than a dry bowl of granola without being milked down with too much soggy saturation. The Black Mountain lends itself to a nice big British Plexi vibe with outstanding tonal characteristics and textures…a lot of crunch and driving midrange!! I also found that it stacks very well with the Lightspeed. Greer came out with an extremely usable box that would definitely compliment any pedal board.
