This Martin Acoustic Guitars - 1953 D-28 falls into a group of D-28s that are referred to as the mystery top guitars. In that year Martin used a top wood other than Sitka Spruce. Adirondack or Engelmann or the two most common guesses, but it is obviously not Sitka. We have had several of these over the years and consistently find them to be excellent sounding guitars and this is clearly one of them.

This guitar is exceptionally clean and original. It has a very cleanly repaired top crack from previously being dry, which was properly repaired soon after and is clean and hardly visible. It also has the typical high E string crack caused by the shrinking of the pick guard. (see photos) The rest of the guitar is crack free and looks like a guitar that could pass for a couple years old, not 65 years old. The neck angle and bridge saddle height are as perfect as you can get. The tortoise dot bridge pins are original as well. The case is also original. A beautiful looking and sounding guitar.
