This 1936 0-17 is the sort of vintage Martin that always turns heads here in the shop. From the lauded pre-war era, the same team of craftsmen that built the herringbones and D-18s of the '30s constructed this single-0 as well, and the care, quality and attention to detail is still on display some 90 years later. The neck profile is a full '36 neck profile, and feels incredible up and down the neck.

The guitar benefits from a recent professional neck reset and refret here in our repair shop. Clear, focused and articulate, there is an immediacy to the note and string-response of the guitar that makes it a such a joy to play.

The top, back and sides are all crack free - there is a small gouge on the top, that does not extends through, with the surrounding wood stable, it's a small quirk that adds to the story of this guitar's history. There is plenty of playwear and dings through, with scrapes along the edges. Original bridge, bridge plate, bone nut, tuners and finish.

Includes the original chipboard case, along with a modern TKL case for shipping.

Our Thoughts

The best advice I ever heard regarding purchasing vintage instruments: buy the nicest example you can afford from the best era of the instruments that interest you. Pre-war 1936 Martin flattops hit it out of the park on most occasions and this guitar is no exception. It has the same level of craftsmanship as a 1936 D-28. Built by the same craftsmen at a fraction of the cost. And it sounds and plays fantastic to boot!
