Martin Guitars - 1939 D-18 - Wide Neck Conversion

Years ago this narrow neck D-18 came to our shop with this beautifully worn, crack free top but was needing a new bridge and fingerboard. At the time both had been shaved very thin in an attempt to lower the action, it was clear then that the guitar needed a neck set, bridge and fingerboard which created an opportunity to do a wide neck conversion. Not the first time for this sort of conversion in our shop.

The new fingerboard flares out to 1-3/4" and the new bridge pin spacing has been increased to 2-1/4". The bridge plate was carefully replaced with the correct size and fit. All the above repairs were done about 10 years ago and the guitar has been played and enjoyed over that time. The guitar also has a previously repaired side crack on the treble side and a minor heal crack. It has a very convincing wide neck feel and sound. If someone wants a great sounding and playing “PLAYER” guitar, this is a great example. With modern hard case.
