Martin Guitars - 1941 D-18. Merle Jackson, the rhythm guitar player for The Valley Ranch Boys, a central Missouri western style band, purchased the guitar from his brother in 1943 and played it at county fairs, churches, clubs and radio shows until the mid 1960s. Later photos show Merle playing the guitar in 1986. The fret wear and play wear indicate a long life of western style swing chord play. Early photos show the guitar with a rectangular bridge, which was on the guitar when it came to us. It was only lightly glued and required only minor touch up before installing a proper size and shape new ebony bridge. The neck has been reset and refretted. The fingerboard remains at full thickness. The nut and tuners are original. Other than the minor touch up at the bridge foot the finish is play worn, nicked and scratched but original. It is a guitar that was used for many years but never abused. All the restoration of this guitar was for playability issues, frets, neck set, bridge etc and not for structure or damage. It is now a very good sounding, very playable example of a pre-war D-18, ready for the next several decades of another Valley Ranch Boys band. Please call for in hand description. Includes appropriate, quality hardshell case.
