The Enigmatic '82 Overdrive Special Amplifier from Universal Audio brings back the classic American tone that started it all: the Tweed. This amp-in-a-box hosts classic sounds that go from rounded to spanky, from clean to grit, this pedals got 'em all.
Amp in a box tech has come a very long way since its inception, with cabinet Impulse Responses, or IRs, sounding extremely close to the real thing. These pedals from UA come with three built-in cabinet sims along with additional cabs available through the phone app. The app, via Bluetooth connection, allows for preset building, more customization options, and other features not found entirely on the pedal to keep pedal usage simple and streamlined. This lets the pedal stand on its own with the essential controls so it can be used independently without the app.
Instrument level and Mic level knobs control the level of both respectively, allowing the user to blend the sounds to their liking for different vibes, while output attenuates the volume holistically. The room knob gives that classic bluesy character when cranked, tone adjusts the treble frequencies, and the boost attenuates the preamp boost for increasing dirt.
Three cabs are available built into the pedal, with 3 additional ones in the app. The rightmost switch controls the boost type with default being a clean preamp boost, KP-3k being an emulation of the KORG SSD-3000 rack delay preamp, and the EP-III being an emulation of the preamp of the Maestro EP-3 delay, all for different flavors of preamp gain coloration. Connecting with the UA mobile app allows for even more tonal and control options for all of the parameters, with preset controls also are found in the app. Overall, a comprehensive pedal that features a vintage sound done incredibly well at an equally impressive price.
