Waterloo by Collings - WL-14 X T-Bar - Sunburst
This Waterloo WL-14 X T-Bar, serial# 466, feels a lot like an old Kalamazoo or Gibson that's been tucked away for decades - only a helluva lot better, thanks to Bill Collings' impeccable build technique and high-quality materials. It's a pared down 1930s- and '40s-inspired 00-sized guitar with classic, old-time tone. This X-braced version has a nice low-end with a really sweet top-end sparkle and a little less pronounced mid-range than the Ladder-braced version - so you get a slightly more open, refined tone. You've got a beautiful Spruce top and Mahogany back and sides here with a Tigerstripe pickguard that beautifully complements the vintage-style Sunburst finish. It also has elegant yet simple details that really add to its overall straightforward aesthetic, including an unbound neck, and Ivoroid top and soundhole binding.
With a thicker, V-shaped Mahogany neck, slightly shorter 24 7/8" scale length, spacious 1 3/4" nut width, and 2 3/8" string spacing, you have a roomy player with a decidedly vintage feel from the moment you pick it up. Structural details include a bone cut-through saddle, Indian Rosewood fingerboard, and Golden Age Restoration tuners - all of which expertly complement the rest of the guitar.
