This Waterloo by Collings WL-14 LTR Acoustic guitar, serial # 096, feels like you just discovered an untouched old Kalamazoo or Gibson L-00 in grandpa's attic only it's better - much better, thanks to Bill Collings' exceptional build and materials. This is a pared down '30s and '40s inspired guitar that really shines, with a classic old-time sound powered by a focused low end and pronounced mid-range. This 00 has a Spruce top with a beautiful and classic satin lacquer burst and it's very lightweight. It's paired with Mahogany back and sides and has ladder bracing and the neck has a truss rod. Simple details like the unbound neck, cool soundhole binding and tigerstripe pickguard lend to the old-time, stripped down vibe.
The beefy V shaped neck has a roomy 1 3/4" nutwidth and you've got 2 3/8" string spacing here - vintage all the way. The structural details are outstanding including a bone cut-through saddle, Ebony nut and fretboard and Golden Age Restoration tuners. The Waterloo line of guitars are available with the traditional L ladder bracing (like this guitar), X bracing, a truss rod (like this one) for those who might like to make adjustments down the pike, or the T-Bar.
This is a really wonderful acoustic with a great feel and tone, all at a great price. It's tailor made for fingerpickers, blues players and lovers of old time tunes, but anyone with a penchant for quality, value and traditional aesthetics will take a shine to this Waterloo WL-14 LTR. It comes with a hard case and full set up to your specs from our luthiers. We have more Waterloo guitars on the way. Questions? Just give us a call or email. Curious why Collings would create an homage to a cheap guitar? Check out this great video from Collings and yes, that's our Vintage Guitar Expert boss Jim Baggett midway in the video.
