The Wren and Cuff Hangman 2D Distortion Pedal faithfully reinterprets the Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal distortion pedal that ended its run in 1991, with a twist - it's more musical than the buzzsaw-grinding distortion of the original. Don't let that fool you, though - if that's what you're looking for, it is here in the Hangman too, you just have a lot more options.

With four controls (Volume, Distortion, Lows, and Highs), you have a lot of room to make adjustments and tweak the level, or severity, of the distortion. Anywhere from the beautiful noise of Jesus and Mary Chain to the brutality of Norwegian death metal and speedy thrash of bands like Anthrax. Rather than dime everything here, you'll want to take some time to find your sweet spot with this Hangman - the high-mids are tied together on this, so your high knob works more with the upper-mids to treble control. The Hangman is not a pedal for those just seeking some major distortion - this pedal has some hidden treasures that are tailor made for the noise/metal player.

Of course every millimeter of this was crafted beautifully, including the hand-wired and hand-loaded circuit board. They used 1/4 watt metal film resistors instead of the 1/8 carbon on the original. You've got true hard-wired bypass plus super durable Alpha pots and a Modern/Vintage toggle switch. The switch lets you to reconfigure the clipping diodes, allowing you bounce between stock and a less compressed more overdrive-meets-distortion sound - and as a boost to the output level. The Wren and Cuff Hangman 2D Distortion Pedal brings the heavy metal pedal back with more vibrant life, durability and hidden secrets you'll want to delve right into.
